Unpacking Midlife
Venue: Conference room to be communicated
Staying Effective Through Midlife as a Life Skill
Many high-performing individuals, typically from their late thirties onward, reach a phase where energy, focus, stress tolerance, health, and relationships begin to feel different—often without clear explanations or practical tools. Life doesn’t fall apart; it subtly shifts.
This UNKLESA session unpacks what changes in midlife, why it matters, and what genuinely helps. Designed for both women and men, it brings attention to often-overlooked transitions such as perimenopause and andropause, and how these affect daily functioning at work and at home.
Led by Dr. Bree Wandji, UNKLESA member, the session explores the medical and psychological shifts that influence productivity, resilience, emotional regulation, libido, and decision-making. These insights are translated into clear, evidence-based strategies participants can apply immediately in real life.
Participants will receive the UNKLESA Midlife Toolkit and a preview of our next session: “Parenting Adolescents Without Losing Yourself.”
Registration Deadline: 14th February

Citizenship and permanent residence, outlining the legal basis for each status, the benefits attached to them, and the available pathways for eligible applicants.
The relationship between immigration status and asset acquisition, including property and land ownership, and how immigration rules interact with long-term residence and investment decisions.
Dependent rules, including current requirements, common challenges faced by families, and an overview of proposed and anticipated changes in law and policy.
The objective of the session is to equip members with clear, accurate and practical information to support informed personal, family and financial planning, while remaining fully compliant with Kenyan immigration law.

Psychological Impact of Relocation
Venue: Online
Join us for an online workshop focused on the psychological impact of relocation and the effects of organisational and financial dependency on the mental health of many members. It’s a topic that every UNKLESA member has experienced. Still, few have the space to explore it openly.
Key topics may include:
The identity shift from professional to dependent status
Emotional challenges of financial and organisational dependency
Early signs of burnout or silent grief in new postings
Strategies for resilience and psychological autonomy abroad.
Facilitated by Olya Shumylo(Psychologist | Researcher).
She has worked with diplomatic and expat spouses since 2018 through therapy, group facilitation, and academic research. Her recent paper explored the mental health impact of the first diplomatic posting on spouses, including the loss of professional identity and shifts in couple dynamics. It remains the only qualitative study to date focused solely on this unique life stage. Additionally, she is involved in policy discussions on how to better support accompanying spouses in international contexts.
